Have you Become A Caregiver In The Sandwich Generation

Written by admin
on May 29th, 2009

For many people of the baby boom generation, The Sandwich Generation has become all too real.  We are still raising our kids.  Many of us have hormonal teenagers that are bringing on all the gray hair we never asked for and still many of us are finding pleasure in the sometimes chaotic world of bringing up small children.

Take your busy day to day life being a Mom or Dad and add to that the now ever increasing obligations to look after your own parents.  Not only do your kids, as well as all of their activities and running your household, need you; but so do your parents.  If this sounds like you then you are one of The Sandwich Generation.

The phrase “Sandwich Generation” is used to describe people that are trying to function between looking out for their aging parents and looking after and raising our dependent children at the same time.

We must talk about you, the caregiver.  Stress management and mental wellness are critical in assisting you while you cope with all of the demands that are placed upon you while you attempt to be the most wonderful parent you can be to your children, and care for your elderly parents, to the best of your ability.  If you are working this will be even more essential and challenging.

The following are some easy steps to help prevent becoming depressed, anxious and exhausted:

  1. Stay connected with relatives and friends.  Enjoy some fun, laugh and focus on matters other than your obligations and do not give in to feelings of guilt about it because maintaining balance emotionally will help you to be a better caregiver.
  2. Always take care of yourself.  There is less chance of burnout or depression if you remain healthy. Eat well, don’t skimp on rest and exercise no matter what.
  3. Ensure that you have a support network.  You need friends, family and others that can step in and help.  Be willing to accept help.  It’s crucial to recognize that no one can do everything and there are times when things will not be accomplished perfectly.
  4. Be honest and straight forward with your employer about your needs.  Perhaps there is room for flexibility in your job schedule.
  5. Utilize local resources.  There are often organizations in your community that are committed to helping with the older folks as well as their caregivers.
  6. Accept that you will have times when you cannot escape feeling exhausted or upset.  These feelings are normal.  Be sure to discuss them with someone you have confidence in.
  7. Be prepared to mourn the loss of the relationship, as it has always been, with your parents.  In many situations your parents were always available to support you but now the driving forces have changed and you may find this hard to face.
  8. Accept that your kids do not always comprehend the obligations that are required of you and they are simply being kids with their own wants and needs.

MOST IMPORTANT: Be a caregiver to you – always be kind to yourself and if you are becoming weary trying to keep this up then enlist the assistance of a good friend who who is compassionate and will serve you a cup of tea while they lend you their ear and a helping hand.

Written by admin

To most families, their home is an integral part of their lives. No only the day to day living in it, but also family times goes on there as well as those leisure times.

Well, when you do find it is time to start some work on your house, such as painting, this can be a stressful time and a disruptive time in their lives.

With that being the case, I would like to offer some advice on choosing the right painting contractor.  This advice comes from years working with homeowners and also running a San Diego painting company myself.

Now at first, picking the right painting contractor doesn’t see like it should be difficult.  But if you consider the fact that this project will cost thousands of dollars, cause an interruption in the normal day to day life in the home, and of course can result in a beautiful job you can be proud of to one that you are embarrassed to show. This is a very big decision.

So here are some tips from my experience as a painter San Diego.

First, you will want to get several quotes from various contractors. You aren’t just trying for the best price.  You are doing this so you can talk with and get to know the company you are going to be working with.  Of course getting a good price is not bad also, but don’t let that be the primary objective.Remember, you want a great job to be done.

Second, you want to know if they have any guarantees to their work.  See if the company has a strong guarantee to your satisfaction.  This shows how confident they are in their work.

Thirdly, you will want to know how soon they will be available to start. Also, you want to start to get an idea on how fast they think they can get it done.  When you are going to cause a disruption like painting your house.  You will want to know
how fast they feel they can get things back in order.

Finally, make sure you get some referrals of previous clients.Contact them as soon as possible to see how they felt about the work of the company.  See how well the work was done, if it was done on time, and is it a good company to work with.

Do this things and you will ensure a stress free and pleasant experience working during this stressful time.  Take it from my years of painting San Diego, doing these few steps will help you greatly.

Baby shower favors can be anything. You might raffle off the elaborate centerpiece at the end of the party or give each of the guests a personalized item marked with the day and year of the shower. Whatever type of favor you choose, it will serve as a lasting reminder to the guests of that special day.

Baby shower favors are small, thoughtful gifts offered to the guests as a thank you for attending the shower. If baby shower games are planned, baby shower favors are usually offered as game prizes that some guests might win. Sometimes these baby shower favors integrate with the theme, but they don’t have to. It all depends upon the preference of the hostess.

The hostess foots the bill for the baby shower, and budget may be a factor when choosing baby shower favors. Consider sharing the expense with others and have a group act as hostess. Determine what items need to be bought and what baby shower games need to be planned.  Assign tasks and delegate. One person could be responsible for shopping for baby shower favors and one person for tracking down decorations, and so on. Make double use of the baby shower favors. Use them as part of the baby shower decorations.

Baby bottles filled with assorted candies make great balloon weights. They can also double as a baby shower centerpiece for tables. When the party is over, the guests can empty the contents into a take-home bag and give the bottles to the mommy-to-be. If the mother plans to breastfeed, choose another type of weight, such as small packs of diapers. If you prefer, you can use these decorations for smaller tables and choose a larger baby shower centerpiece for the main table.

There are so many choices for baby shower favors that it is best to categorize them into four main groups: Edible, decorative, personalized, and pampering. A few examples of edible baby shower favors include baby socks filled with candies, baby pacifier lollipops, or baby feet gummies. Personalized baby shower favors are items you can engrave or that have photos of the guests, like small picture frames with a group shot. Decorative and pampering choices include scented votive candles, soaps or candles shaped like ducks, bunnies, baby booties, or baby bottles. Any of these items serve well as baby shower decorations.

If you do end up using the baby shower centerpiece or other decorations as favors, wait until the end of the party to hand them out to the guests. Baby shower favors are not a requirement by any means, but they are nice to have and a reminder for the guests after the party is over. Everyone likes to walk away from a party with a little something, and baby shower favors can leave a smile on everyone’s face.
